What size do they reach ?
They get a bodysize of 17-20cm and a total lengh of 70-80cm


What should I feed them ?
Fijis are omnivore, they feed different kind of greens and herbs (Endivie, kale, dendalion, weeds, alfalfa, carrotgreen, zuccini, pumpkin,….) also fruits (mango, papaya, apricot, peach, grapes, all kind of berries, orange, ….) also insects (jumpers, crickets, zophobas, waxworm, buffalos, roaches, silkworms)

How often should they be fed?

Young animals up to 1 year:

7 days greens
3 times per week insects, as much as they like.

Adult animals:
5 days per week greens and fruits (95% greens, 5% fruits)
1 day insects
1 day nothing


Do fijis iguanas feed from the floor of the cage ?
NO, normally fijis will not go down for feeding.
It is the best to place a feeding platform in the middle of the Terrarium 30-50 cm away from the Heat-Spot.
You can offer the food in a dish, they also feed insect from a pot.
Or you can feed insects from a tweezer.


What Terrarium size is needed for an adult pair ?
Minimum 200 x 80 x 100 cm (6,5 x 2,6 x 3,3 ft) Lengh x wide x High
Optimal size 200 x 100 x 150



How long can you keep them in a smaller cage?
I rise 5-9 Fijis iguanas in a tank of 80x60x80 until they are 6 month old.
Older iguanas should be rised pairwise in a terrarium of 100x60x80, until they are 1,5-2 Years old.


When do Fijis iguanas reach sexual maturity ?
Between 12-18 month, females earlier then males.


How long is the Livespan for Fiji iguanas ?
around 20-25 years


What temperature do they need?
Airtemperature should be provided between 28-32 degree Celsius
Temperature under the Spot, not higher then 40 degree Celsius


Do they need UV-Light ?
YES, I they need UV Light, I use the following bulbs:
Zoomed Powesun 160 Watt
T-Rex UV-Heat 100-160 Watt Spot
Rep-UV Mega Ray 100-160Watt
Lucky Reptile Bright Sun UV 50-70Watt (for smaller enclosures)


How long should I turn on the UV-Lamp !
The main heatsource for my fiji iguanas enclosures is the UV-Lamp.
It is on until 8:00 – 17:00, it is controlled by a thermostat, so that the airtemperature gets not higher then 32°C in the upper third of the terrarium
Under Spot the Temperture should not get higher then 40°C


How much light is used for a fiji iguana enclosure ?
For an terrarium with 200x80x100 I use four 14Watt T5 or 18Watt T8 Fluorescent lights.


What substrate should be used ?
I use washed Quarzsand with 0,1-3mm granulation, 3-5 cm high.
Other substrates will mould quickly when they are always wet.


Where do fijis iguana females s lay the eggs ?
On two places in the enclosure, the substrate should be 10-15 cm deep.


Why is my Fiji-Iguana male not interested in the female?
Most males need to be stimulated by another male.
Some males are breeding/mating with the females for years and suddenly they have no more interest in the female.
Then it is time to stimulate him with another male.


Do Fiji Iguanas require unfiltered Sunlight?
If you have a good UV-Bulb is your enclosure, then it is not neccessary to put them outside in the sun.


Can I put my fijis in outside enclosures?Yes, if the temperature goes not under 15°C at night and 25°C at day.
You need an extra Heat-source for colder days.
They will get much brighter colours in natural Sunlight or in a Glasshouse.
