Hi everybody,
our breeding season is over now (if I can say it in these words) and it ended with 13 unfertilized eggs... we have observed some mating attempts, but it seems the male wasn´t succesfull.
From April I have raised temperatures, more light, more humidity and animals got redish colour - so it seemed everything is going fine.
In the Zoo, they stimulate mating between nubilas with another male (separated by fence or plexiglass), but this is impossible for us at this time.
So I wonder to ask - do you have some tricks for stimulating the mating of C. nubila? Apart from simulating the summer time (temp., humidity etc.).
Maybe another female would raise the male´s breeding mood, but I think the integration to the current pair can be disaster for the newcomer.
Thanks for every insight. Hope you all are more succesfull than me this year.
Mike

Hello Mike,
I also stimulate my cyclura males with other males.
If your male does not show any interest in you female, then you need to stimulate him with an other male or a mirror!
You can try a mirror, but most of the males ignored it, after some attacks, without a reaction of the rival.
Another female is not a good Idea. Trios always are a problem, because one female is always dominant.
It is ale very difficult to introduce her in the group.
Its the best to house all Cycluras in pairs.
Greetings
SJ

Hi, thanks a lot.
Maybe this is quite stupid idea but I was wondering - is it possible that male of C. cornuta can "help" mating stimulation between nubilas?
It is more than clear to me, that we will have to solve it with another male - I have prepared new dormitory where we wanted to have rhino iguanas and it is theoretically possible that they could see to each other (in case I would plough a big hole to the 100cm thick stone wall of my house - on the other hand, why not? :) )

Hello,
I have also a cyclura cornuta next to the C.nubila cage, but the males will ignore each other.
If you put them together, then they will fight very hard and they will have deep bite wounds, within a few mínutes.
The only chance is a nubila male for stimulation, but only in spring !
greetings

Sure I would never put two males (cuban neither rhino or combined) into the same cage - my idea was some plexi between two cages (but there is wall now) but it´s obvious that between this two species it wouldn´t work - really many thanks for valuable info. So the objective now is to find another pair and combine cages with opening see-trough barrier.
I have been "warned" from several people and articles about this, but I secretely hoped...

They are still absolutely awsome animals. The more the better.
Once more thanks.
