Hi guys,

I'm the proud owner of 2.2 C.cornuta born in 12/'06.
Last Summer each female laid 3 eggs above the sand substrate (too low to dig it).
Now the 2 females look still gravid.

Would you please post a pic/brief description of what a nest site for Cyclura has to look like?
As far now I've provided them a box with a tunnel full of sand/sphagnum just like the one I've seen on page 48
of Kohler's Ctenosaura book (Ed. Herpeton).

Thanks in advance
Stefano

Hello Stefano,

I use for all my Cycluras a box that is 100x60x25 cm (LxWxH) with a hole in the front with 20cm diameter.
Filled only with moist sand.
I also tried the box of Mr. Koehler's book, but they don't like it.
Good Luck !
Greetings
Juergen

Hi,
and congrates for the gravid female!

My Nubilas don't use artificial netboxes at all. Allyways the same place unter a few rocks. The tunnel she burrows is 70cm, temperature 29C, humidity 80%.

Hi mates,

thanks for your ready and usefull reply!
I do not think that those eggs will be good (as the last year ones) because the females are too young and one had been parted by her male, so I'll use a nest box only to avoid dystocia (egg-bound).

Cheers
Stefano

PS: nice to see you Karsten surfing here too!

yes mate ;-)
GetCoiled is my nickname in at least 3/4 of all the herp-forums I use to be one of the users...
Just funny that I didn't realize that you didn't know that...LOL!
Another chance to keep in touch talking about those amazing iguanas I guess.
Cheers
Stef

Hi everybody,
firts of all, thanks to Mr.Schmidt for creating this forum.
We (me and my wife) have 1,1 Cyclura nubila and expecting our first try to breed them next spring.

I´ve made nesting site from standart enamel 140x70x40 bathtube full of wet sand, now I´m making big concrete bord with heating cables in it to warm the nesting site (from top to down) as I don´t have the floor heating. Hope the female will like it...

Hi Mike,

welcome here at the cyclura.eu forum.
Your c.nubila pair looks very big and beautiful. How old are they?

Juergen

The male is now 6, we have him from Zoo, where he wasn´t admitted to the breeding group and even females terrorized him. But when he was single, he started to grow quickly and became very dominant (but still peacefull tu humans) so we decided it´s the time to get him some "bride" :) . She is also from zoo and she´s now 9 years old.
It´s a little bit shame that we didn´t raise them from youth, but as we have our private amateur iguana shelter (nothing big, just helping few reptiles), we don´t care how old are the animals.
